MI Choice is Michigan's alternative to institutional care, open to adults 65 and older as well as adults 18 and older with disabilities who meet the state's nursing-facility level-of-care standard. The program is explicitly framed as a way to receive that level of care at home or in the community instead of in a facility.
Financially, MI Choice uses the 300%-of-SSI special income level, set at $2,982 per month for 2026. The program's provider manual also cites the same asset figures used elsewhere in Michigan's LTC eligibility groups: $9,950 for an individual and $14,910 for a couple.
Because MI Choice is a waiver rather than a guaranteed benefit, enrollment is capped — Michigan's 2026 program amendment sets a maximum of 14,000 people enrolled at any one time, which can mean a wait even for someone who otherwise qualifies. PACE, delivered through a network of Michigan centers, offers a separate integrated-care alternative for eligible participants.
