Iowa HHS's definition of long-term-care facilities spans nursing facilities, intermediate-care facilities for people with intellectual disabilities, and certified skilled nursing facilities. To get Medicaid coverage in any of these settings, an applicant has to clear the financial rules, demonstrate a genuine need for that facility level of care, and — for anyone in the 300%-of-SSI income group — satisfy the 30-consecutive-day institutional-stay requirement described in the manual.
