Nursing Home or Institutional Medicaid is one of Alaska's three long-term-care Medicaid pathways, and it requires clearing both financial and clinical hurdles. The current eligibility reference reports the 2026 single-applicant resource limit at $2,000 and the income limit at $2,982 a month, with a Qualified Income Trust available for applicants whose income exceeds that cap, subject to the state's determination.
DPA handles the financial side, including calculating a Cost of Care Amount once eligibility is established. According to the state's COCA guide, DPA adds up income, subtracts allowed deductions, and then directs the recipient to pay the resulting amount to the care provider — a contribution that's separate from, and comes after, the initial resource and income-cap tests. Nursing-home residents also receive a $200 monthly personal-needs allowance.
