VA describes Aid & Attendance as a monthly payment added on top of a veteran's or survivor's existing VA pension. Qualifying generally requires needing help with activities like bathing, feeding, or dressing; being bedridden; living in a nursing home because of a disability-related loss of ability; or meeting a specific severe visual-impairment standard.
For a nursing-home-based claim, VA Form 21-0779 is also required. It's worth remembering that this federal VA benefit runs on its own track, separate from MO HealthNet — different agencies, different eligibility rules, different documentation — so approval for one doesn't establish eligibility for the other.
On the Missouri-specific side, MO HealthNet policy excludes the verified Aid & Attendance portion of a VA pension from its own financial calculation, and the state operates seven Veterans Homes along with a narrow property-tax exemption tied to former-POW status.
