Getting into a nursing facility isn't the same as qualifying for Medicaid to pay for it. LDH's LTC policy (H-800) names nursing facilities as institutional settings covered by the special-income-limit framework, but an applicant still has to clear the resource, transfer, and nonfinancial rules that apply on top of admission.
LDH's January 2026 chart (Z-700) puts the monthly special income limit at $2,982 for a single applicant, alongside the $2,000 individual and $3,000 couple resource limits described elsewhere. For someone whose income runs above three times the SSI federal benefit rate, LDH's consumer materials point to the Medically Needy Spend-Down Program as a way to qualify once enough medical expenses are available to offset the excess.
