VA Aid and Attendance adds a monthly amount on top of a qualifying veteran's or survivor's existing VA pension. To be eligible, a pension recipient generally needs another person's help with daily activities like bathing, feeding, or dressing; is substantially bedridden; is in a nursing home because of a disability-related loss of mental or physical function; or meets the VA's specific vision-related standard.
Applications can be filed online, by mail, or in person. The medical-examination portion is documented on VA Form 21-2680, and a nursing-home claimant may also need to submit VA Form 21-0779. As with other states, Aid and Attendance and Housebound benefits can't be received simultaneously — it's one or the other.
