Nevada VA Aid & Attendance

VA Aid and Attendance is a federal add-on to a qualifying veteran's or survivor's VA pension, not a standalone benefit. The VA lays out several paths to eligibility: needing help with everyday activities, being bedridden due to illness, being in a nursing home because of a disability-related loss of function, or meeting a specific visual-impairment standard. One limitation to know — it can't be received alongside the VA Housebound benefit at the same time.

For someone already in a nursing home, the VA process runs through Form 21-0779 submitted with the rest of the claim materials, and it operates on a completely separate track from Nevada's own nursing-facility Medicaid process, which uses its own PASRR screening and FA-19 Level of Care Assessment. Filing the VA claim doesn't take care of the Nevada Medicaid application, and vice versa — families dealing with both need to keep the two processes moving in parallel.
