# Wyoming VA Aid & Attendance

Last updated 2026-10-20

VA Aid and Attendance is a federal benefit, not a Wyoming Medicaid program — it's an additional monthly payment layered on top of an existing VA pension for a qualifying veteran or survivor. The VA's qualifying circumstances include needing another person's regular help with daily activities, being bedridden, being a nursing-home resident because of a disabling mental or physical condition, or meeting the VA's specific visual-impairment standard. As with other states, a recipient can't collect Aid and Attendance and Housebound benefits simultaneously — it's one or the other.

For a nursing-home-based claim, the VA directs applicants to its nursing-home information form along with required medical-examination documentation. It's important to recognize that these federal forms don't replace anything on the Wyoming Medicaid side — the state's separate public-health-nurse needs assessment, the Chapter 22 nursing-facility level-of-care determination, and the standard Medicaid financial application are all still required independently. A veteran or family may well need to coordinate records across both the VA and Wyoming Medicaid systems, but getting approved in one doesn't automatically mean approval in the other.
