# West Virginia Nursing Home Medicaid

Last updated 2026-10-20

West Virginia's long-term-care overview states that Medicaid can cover care in a Nursing Home Facility once an individual satisfies both the applicable medical and financial requirements. The state's 2026 Medicaid guide lists nursing-home care among its covered services but is careful to note that coverage depends on financial and asset limits plus separate medical criteria — simply being admitted to a facility doesn't by itself establish that Medicaid will pay.

The most recently located state long-term-care flyer puts the asset limits at $2,000 for an individual and $3,000 for a couple, alongside a 300%-of-one-person-SSI income standard listed as $2,901 effective January 2025. That same flyer notes that people with income above that figure may still qualify if their nursing-care costs exceed the Medically Needy Income Limit and other program requirements are satisfied — though the current county determination is what actually controls in any individual case. Residents also receive a personal-needs allowance of $50 per month under the program.

## West Virginia figures

- Individual asset limit: $2,000
- Couple asset limit: $3,000
- 300%-of-SSI income standard (effective January 2025): $2,901/month
- Nursing-facility personal-needs allowance: $50/month
