# Virginia Medicaid Asset Limits

Last updated 2026-10-20

Virginia's 2026 policy sets a $2,000 resource limit for one person in the aged-blind-disabled categorically needy or medically needy groups, rising to $3,000 for two people. Those are the basic figures — they're not the final word for every married applicant, since Virginia's community-spouse rules can protect a larger, separately calculated amount when one spouse is institutionalized (DMAS 2026 resource policy).

On income, the same source lists $2,982 a month as the 2026 figure for the one-person, 300%-of-SSI aged-blind-disabled categorically needy group. But Virginia doesn't stop there — it also publishes medically needy income limits, effective July 1, 2026, and runs a spend-down process under its LTSS manual. That's a real departure from states with a single hard income-cap answer: someone over 300% of SSI in Virginia should have their situation analyzed against the medically needy route and current patient-pay rules, rather than being assumed to need a Qualified Income Trust (DMAS 2026 income charts; DMAS Chapter M14).
