# Rhode Island Medicaid Asset Limits

Last updated 2026-10-20

Rhode Island's active LTSS financial-eligibility rule caps countable resources at $4,000 for most applicants, with an exception carved out for the ACA expansion-adult group. EOHHS's consumer-facing guidance echoes this in plain language, telling applicants that cash and savings need to stay under $4,000 — but that figure only applies to countable resources, so ownership structure, availability, exemptions, debt, and valuation all still require individual review.

Married couples face a more layered calculation than a simple shared number. When one spouse needs LTSS and the other doesn't, the state totals the couple's countable resources, sets aside the community spouse's protected share under the Community Spouse Resource Standard, and only then compares what's left for the LTSS spouse against the $4,000 line. The rule also allows a 90-day window — extendable under certain conditions — to retitle resources into the community spouse's name once eligibility has been determined.

## Rhode Island figures

- Individual LTSS resource standard: $4,000
