# Pennsylvania Medicaid Asset Limits

Last updated 2026-10-20

**Quick answer:** Pennsylvania's long-term care Medicaid resource limit depends on income. If income is $2,982 a month or less, one person can have up to $8,000 in countable resources ($2,000 plus a $6,000 disregard); above $2,982, the limit is $2,400.

Pennsylvania actually offers applicants two different ways to qualify financially. DHS publishes a 2026 individual income limit of $2,982 per month for the 300%-of-SSI-federal-benefit-rate institutional pathway.

Pennsylvania's resource limit for long-term care depends on income. According to the Department of Human Services, if your gross monthly income is at or below 300% of the federal benefit rate ($2,982 in 2026), the resource limit for one person is $2,000, with an additional $6,000 resource disregard, so you can have up to $8,000 in countable resources. If your income is above $2,982, the limit is $2,400. The DHS Long-Term Care Handbook (§ 440.1) explains how the $6,000 disregard is applied.

But that's not the only door in. Pennsylvania also runs a medically needy, or spend-down, pathway — DHS explains that income above the limit can be offset by incurred medical or cost-of-care expenses accumulated over a six-month period.

Put together, this two-path structure means it's inaccurate to describe Pennsylvania as a strict income-cap state across the board — unlike, say, Florida's harder income-cap framework.

## Pennsylvania figures

- Individual income limit (300% FBR pathway): $2,982/month
- Medically needy spend-down accounting period: 6 months
- Resource limit, income at or below $2,982/month: $2,000 + $6,000 disregard (up to $8,000)
- Resource limit, income above $2,982/month: $2,400
