# Oregon VA Aid & Attendance

Last updated 2026-10-20

Aid and Attendance is a monthly payment added on top of a qualifying veteran's or survivor's VA pension. A person may qualify when they need regular help with activities like bathing, feeding, or dressing; when they're bedridden; when they're in a nursing home because of a disability-related loss of ability; or when they meet specific vision criteria.

VA rules don't allow someone to collect Aid and Attendance and Housebound benefits at the same time. A nursing-home applicant also has to complete VA Form 21-0779, and the VA offers online, mail, or regional-office paths for filing the claim.

Oregon runs two State Veterans' Homes and offers property-tax relief for qualifying disabled veterans — both worth factoring in alongside the federal benefit. Oregon's long-term-care rules also carry a special personal-incidental-funds treatment tied to VA income, which is a detail worth confirming since it can affect how a veteran's Aid and Attendance interacts with facility cost-of-care calculations.
