# Oklahoma Long-Term Care Planning

Last updated 2026-10-20

For a single long-term-care applicant, Oklahoma's current table sets a $2,982 monthly categorically-needy income standard alongside a $2,000 resource standard. Once countable income exceeds that standard, OHCA routes nursing-facility applicants to the Medicaid Income Pension Trust rule, and Appendix C-1 caps monthly countable income eligible for that trust at $7,535. That makes the timing, funding, and ongoing administration of a Medicaid Income Pension Trust one of the central planning questions for any Oklahoma family.

The trust rule is specific about who it's for: someone who needs long-term care, whose countable income sits above the standard but below the average cost of a nursing home, and who funds the trust only with their own income and accumulated income. Using those accumulated funds for anything else gets treated as a transfer subject to penalty. Setting up a trust account at the last minute, without proper review, can create a new eligibility problem rather than solve the original one.
