# Ohio Medicaid Long-Term Care

Last updated 2026-10-20

Ohio doesn't route everyone through a single long-term-care program. The Ohio Department of Medicaid oversees the system, but depending on a person's situation, the practical path could be fee-for-service nursing-facility Medicaid, a home- and community-based waiver, or managed care for those who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid.

Where you go to apply also depends on the type of care. County Departments of Job and Family Services determine financial eligibility for institutional Medicaid, while Area Agencies on Aging handle intake and assessment for PASSPORT, the state's main waiver for older adults.
