# New Mexico Nursing Home Medicaid

Last updated 2026-10-20

New Mexico's nursing-home Medicaid pathway runs through Institutional Care Medicaid, split into three categories: 081 for aged applicants, 083 for blind applicants, and 084 for disabled applicants. HCA describes these categories as covering people who need care in high or low nursing facilities, ICF/IID facilities, or acute-care hospitals (HCA January 2026 eligibility pamphlet).

The published 2026 financial standard for this pathway is $2,982 in maximum allowable countable monthly income and $2,000 in individual resources. Married applicants shouldn't assume the single-person resource figure tells the whole story, since New Mexico applies special income and resource rules once a spouse is in the picture (HCA January 2026 eligibility pamphlet).

Clinical eligibility for this pathway runs through New Mexico's nursing-facility level-of-care (NFLOC) review, and residents keep a personal-needs allowance from their own income — currently $97 per month, a notably higher figure than the personal-needs allowances used in many other states.
