# New Mexico Medicaid Asset Limits

Last updated 2026-10-20

New Mexico's current 2026 figures for aged, blind, and disabled Medicaid applicants set the IC/Waiver income standard at $2,982 per month and the individual resource limit at $2,000. That same official sheet also lists the 2026 average nursing-facility cost at $9,209 — a figure that does double duty, since it's also used in the state's transfer-penalty calculations (HCA 2026 ABD Medicaid programs sheet).

It's worth understanding that Institutional Care Medicaid isn't simply ordinary SSI Medicaid with a different name. HCA's January 2026 pamphlet specifies that categories 081, 083, and 084 require an applicant to meet SSI eligibility criteria in every respect except income, and it pins the maximum allowable countable monthly income for those categories at $2,982. Separately, the state's institutional-care regulation confirms that countable resources may not exceed $2,000 (HCA January 2026 eligibility pamphlet; HCA 8.281.500 NMAC institutional-care rule).

Married applicants have additional protection through the community-spouse resource allowance, which currently ranges from a minimum of $32,532 to a maximum of $162,660, along with a home-equity limit of $752,000 applied to the primary residence.
