# New Mexico Home Care Medicaid

Last updated 2026-10-20

New Mexico's primary route for long-term services and supports delivered at home is the Community Benefit Program, which HCA describes as serving Medicaid members who need assistance living at home or in a community setting rather than in a long-term-care facility. Covered services listed by HCA include personal care with daily activities, employment supports, and home modifications (HCA Community Benefit Program).

Community Benefit operates inside the state's broader managed-care structure, which creates two different starting points depending on someone's current coverage. HCA says a person who already has full-coverage Medicaid and is enrolled with a managed-care organization should work directly with their care coordinator, while a person who has full Medicaid but isn't yet enrolled with an MCO first has to become an MCO member before receiving Community Benefit services (HCA Community Benefit Program).

For people who don't already qualify for full-coverage Medicaid, HCA maintains a separate path: the Community Benefit Central Registry, where individuals can seek an allocation and slots become available based on assessed need. This registry structure is the reason timing matters so much in New Mexico home-care planning — an allocation isn't automatic just because someone meets the clinical and financial criteria.
