# New Hampshire Long-Term Care Planning

Last updated 2026-10-20

New Hampshire runs an income-cap system for its nursing-facility and CFI pathways, with the 2026 figure commonly published at $2,982 per month for a single applicant. But that's not the only door in: the state's medically needy "In and Out" option allows eligibility once excess income has been spent down toward medical bills, so any planning conversation needs to separate the institutional or waiver income cap from this alternate medically needy route.

On the resource side, planning should start from the published $2,500 individual limit — but that number is a starting point, not a blanket rule that every asset must be liquidated. Exclusions, accessibility of an asset, marital status, existing debt, how something is titled, and the community-spouse allowance rules all need to be checked against the actual current regulations before assuming a given asset counts against the limit.

## New Hampshire figures

- Nursing-facility/CFI income cap: $2,982/month
- Individual resource limit: $2,500
- Look-back period: 60 months
