# Mississippi Nursing Home Medicaid

Last updated 2026-10-20

DOM's 2026 guide covers nursing-facility Medicaid for an aged, blind, or disabled person who becomes a long-term-care patient in a Medicaid-accepting nursing facility or hospital. Beyond the medical piece, the person has to satisfy the state's nonfinancial requirements along with the income and resource rules; for a nursing-facility or hospital stay, "long-term care" generally means 31 consecutive days or longer (DOM 2026 nursing-facility and HCBS guide; DOM eligibility page).

The 2026 numbers anchoring this pathway are a $2,982-per-month institutional income cap before deductions and a $4,000 individual resource limit. Someone whose income exceeds the cap may still be able to qualify through an Income Trust, provided DOM's requirements are met — but DOM is clear that this route doesn't work if the person's monthly income exceeds the nursing facility's private-pay rate for a 31-day month (DOM 2026 nursing-facility and HCBS guide).

Residents keep a modest personal-needs allowance from their income — currently $44 per month in Mississippi's standard nursing-facility calculation — and eligibility runs through the state's PAS (Preadmission Assessment/Screening) clinical gateway before placement is confirmed.

## Mississippi figures
