# Maryland VA Aid & Attendance

Last updated 2026-10-20

Maryland's own state veterans home, Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in St. Mary's County, is Medicare/Medicaid-certified and combines a 126-bed assisted-living program with a 318-bed skilled-nursing program, according to the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families. The state hasn't published a statewide count of veterans homes beyond this one, but both Maryland and a VA announcement identify Charlotte Hall as the state-run facility.

Eligibility generally requires Maryland residency, full-time active-duty service, and an honorable discharge, though certain qualifying reservists and spouses can also apply. Applicants must be at least 62 or documented as disabled by Social Security or the VA. According to the home, paying for skilled-nursing care can draw on personal resources, long-term-care insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid where eligibility requirements are met, and staff are available to help families work through the payment picture.

## Maryland figures
