# Maine Home Care Medicaid

Last updated 2026-10-20

MaineCare offers several distinct categories of home and community-based support: Consumer Directed Attendant Services under Section 12, home- and community-based services spread across Sections 18, 19, and 20, Home Health under Section 40, and Private Duty Nursing and Personal Care under Section 96. Which section applies depends heavily on the specific service someone needs, so it's not a single unified program but a set of related ones.

Functional eligibility for any of these routes runs through the same Maine Assessing Services Agency used for facility admissions — its LTC Advisory assessment can determine eligibility for MaineCare-funded in-home services just as it does for a nursing-facility stay.

The primary older-adult waiver is Section 19, formally the Home and Community Benefits for the Elderly and Adults with Disabilities waiver, identified by DHHS as waiver ME.0276 in its 2026 waiver-amendment notice. That notice describes proposed amendments touching the 2024 revised 1915(c) application, worker requirements, service caps, grievance procedures, funding contingencies, and related cost estimates.
