# Louisiana Medicaid Asset Limits

Last updated 2026-10-20

The baseline numbers are straightforward: LDH's January 2026 LTC/HCBS chart (Z-700) sets the resource limit at $2,000 for a single applicant and $3,000 for a couple. Those same figures carry over into Louisiana's non-MAGI resource policy for SSI-related applicants (I-1630), though whether a specific asset counts toward that limit still has to be worked out under the manual's rules.

LDH's consumer-facing explanation describes resources broadly — cash, and any property that could be converted to cash to pay for support and maintenance. Bank accounts, investment holdings, life insurance, real estate, annuities, and trusts are all named as examples that typically count. On the flip side, LDH notes that certain assets usually don't count against the limit, including the home itself, one vehicle, and some life insurance policies — though the specific ownership structure and any applicable exemption ultimately decide the outcome for a given family.
