# Kentucky Nursing Home Medicaid

Last updated 2026-10-20

Kentucky classifies nursing-facility services under Provider Type 12, and CHFS describes them as intended for people who need high-intensity nursing care or rehabilitation. The per-diem rate is meant to cover room and board, nursing services, dietary services, social services and activities, therapies, and supplies as laid out in the state's program description.

Financial eligibility is only half the picture — every individual applying for admission to, or already residing in, a facility has to go through PASRR review. Providers manage that process, along with level-of-care determinations, through the Kentucky Level of Care System, known as KLOCS.

Residents in a Medicaid-covered facility keep a $60 monthly personal-needs allowance out of their income, which is meant to cover incidental personal expenses not provided by the facility itself.
