# Kentucky Medicaid Asset Limits

Last updated 2026-10-20

**Quick answer:** Kentucky's Medicaid resource limit is $2,000 for one person and $4,000 for two. In 2026, the at-home spouse can keep $32,532 to $162,660, and income above $2,982 a month requires a Qualifying Income Trust.

Kentucky's Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) publishes the resource rules in its Volume IVA manual, which sets a $2,000 allowance for a single aged, blind, or disabled applicant and $4,000 for two. Those numbers form the baseline for nursing-facility and waiver eligibility work, but the actual outcome for a given family still depends on how an asset is titled, a spouse's status, any applicable exclusions, and whether the asset is genuinely available to the applicant.

Married applicants get a different calculation when one spouse stays in the community. Rather than simply doubling the individual limit, Kentucky's 2026 Community Spouse Resource Allowance runs from a minimum of $32,532 up to a maximum of $162,660, generally figured as half of the couple's combined countable resources within that range.

On top of the resource test, Kentucky enforces a hard income cap rather than a medically-needy spend-down option. Income above the $2,982 special standard requires a properly funded Qualifying Income Trust, and the state also applies a $752,000 home-equity threshold, with exceptions carved out under the policy's protected-resident provisions.
