# Indiana Long-Term Care Insurance

Last updated 2026-10-20

Indiana runs an active Long Term Care Insurance Program, structured as a partnership between the state and private long-term-care insurers. For 2026, the program's published Partnership policy requirements include a $115 minimum daily benefit and a $548,820 initial policy amount for a total-asset policy.

According to the program's own FAQ, both traditional and Partnership long-term-care policies are sold in Indiana, and the state itself doesn't sell the insurance — it's strictly a private-insurer market. That means the Partnership option here is genuinely open, not a closed, legacy-only arrangement, though actual availability still comes down to finding a licensed insurer offering the policy.

## Indiana figures

- Partnership minimum daily benefit: $115
- Partnership initial total-asset policy amount: $548,820

## Does Indiana have a Long-Term Care Partnership program?

**Yes.** Indiana is one of the four original Partnership states. Its program, the Indiana Long Term Care Insurance Program, began before the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 and follows its own rules rather than the NAIC-based DRA model most states use, and a Partnership-qualified policy gives Medicaid asset protection based on the benefits the policy pays.

**How the protection works (illustrative):** if a Partnership policy pays $200,000 in benefits before you apply for Medicaid, Medicaid can disregard $200,000 of your assets on top of the state's regular asset limit, and that same amount is protected from Medicaid estate recovery later.

### If you move to another state

Indiana takes part in Partnership reciprocity. Protection in other reciprocal states is applied on a dollar-for-dollar basis. Confirm the rules with the Medicaid agency in the state where you'll apply.

Not every insurer offers Partnership-qualified policies in every state. When you compare quotes, ask whether each policy is Partnership-qualified in Indiana.
