# Idaho Medicaid Long-Term Care

In Idaho, the state agency behind nursing-home Medicaid is the Department of Health and Welfare, and DHW is upfront that eligibility isn't a single yes-or-no gate. Its consumer-facing nursing-home guidance explains that coverage turns on income, resources, and each household's particular circumstances — some applicants qualify right away, while others end up covering part of their nursing-home bill themselves before benefits kick in.

For seniors and adults with disabilities specifically, DHW lays out a checklist: Idaho residency, citizenship or an accepted immigration status, and meeting the program's age-or-disability, income, and resource rules. But passing that financial screen is only half the process. Once someone is determined financially eligible, DHW still requires a Level of Care Determination before approving nursing-home or home- and community-based services — a functional review layered on top of the money review.
