# Georgia VA Aid & Attendance

Last updated 2026-10-20

Georgia treats VA Aid & Attendance more generously than a lot of families expect. DFCS policy states plainly that Aid & Attendance payments, along with reimbursements for unusual or unreimbursed medical expenses, are never counted as income — not for Medicaid eligibility, and not when calculating patient liability or cost share (DFCS PAMMS §2418; DFCS PAMMS §2553).

That's a meaningfully better outcome than a lot of generic, multi-state guidance would suggest, which is exactly why Georgia applicants should lean on the state's own DFCS rules rather than a national summary (DFCS PAMMS §2499; DFCS PAMMS §2553).

One nuance to keep straight: the base VA pension itself — separate from the Aid & Attendance add-on — is treated as ordinary unearned income in Georgia, and it doesn't get the benefit of the standard $20 general income exclusion that applies elsewhere (DFCS PAMMS §2405; DFCS PAMMS §2505).

## Georgia figures

- Standard general income exclusion (does not apply to base VA pension): $20
