# Connecticut VA Aid & Attendance

Last updated 2026-10-20

Aid and Attendance is a federal VA pension add-on, not a Connecticut program. The VA can add a monthly amount to a qualifying veteran's or survivor's pension when the recipient needs help with activities like bathing, feeding, or dressing, is bedridden, is a nursing-home patient because of a disability, or meets specific visual-impairment criteria. Because this is a federal determination, a VA award letter doesn't automatically translate into Connecticut HUSKY C eligibility.

The VA's process asks applicants to submit the appropriate pension claim along with supporting medical evidence. From there, Connecticut Medicaid eligibility, patient-liability calculations, and home-care enrollment are handled as entirely separate agency decisions. Nothing in the available HUSKY C materials states a blanket rule excluding Aid and Attendance from every income or patient-liability calculation, so claimants should hand DSS the current VA award letter and request a written explanation of exactly how the payment will be treated.

Beyond the federal pension benefit itself, Connecticut adds one state-specific resource worth knowing about: the Rocky Hill State Veterans Home, a single campus serving qualifying veterans, along with separate property-tax relief available to veterans. Both of those state-level pieces call for their own review alongside any VA pension claim.
