# Connecticut Nursing Home Medicaid

Last updated 2026-10-20

HUSKY C's long-term services and supports include skilled nursing-home care for eligible older adults and adults with disabilities. Before Medicaid pays for that care, the state's Partnership consumer guidance requires a physician to certify that skilled nursing-facility care is both medically necessary and medically appropriate. Financial eligibility is judged separately from that medical determination, and the guidance reiterates the same figure seen elsewhere: a single person in a nursing facility can hold no more than $1,600 in total assets.

It would be a mistake to assume every nursing-home resident sits under one single universal income ceiling. DSS confirms that HUSKY C allows spend-down for people whose income or assets exceed a given Medicaid limit, and the Partnership guidance separately describes a nursing-facility resident directing income — beyond a set of permitted deductions — toward the cost of care. The safest approach is asking DSS directly for the applicant's actual eligibility category and the resulting patient-liability calculation.
