# Colorado Nursing Home Medicaid

Last updated 2026-10-20

Health First Colorado pays for nursing-facility services through its LTSS system once a person meets both the financial and functional requirements. HCPF treats nursing facilities as their own distinct provider setting with dedicated LTSS functional-eligibility tools, so simply being admitted to a facility isn't the same thing as a Medicaid approval. Coordinating the facility, the functional assessment, and the financial application in parallel — rather than assuming one will automatically produce the other — is the practical takeaway.

Colorado's published Long-Term Care Level of Care Eligibility Assessment sets the functional bar: generally, an applicant needs deficits in two of six activities of daily living, or a qualifying moderate-or-greater supervision need tied to behavior or memory/cognition. Because this is a documented functional assessment rather than a diagnosis-based decision, the team completing it should record specifics on bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, transfers, mobility, and supervision needs rather than rely on a diagnostic label alone.

Once approved, residents keep a personal-needs allowance of $110.36 a month from their income before the rest applies to the cost of care.

## Colorado figures

- Personal-needs allowance: $110.36/month
- ADL deficits required (of six): 2
