# Alabama Medicaid Asset Limits

Last updated 2026-10-20

The Alabama Medicaid Agency's 2026 income-limits handout sets the bar for Nursing Home (Institutionalized) Medicaid at $2,982 per month in income and $2,000 in resources, measured as of the first day of the month. That same handout applies identical figures — $2,982 monthly and $2,000 in resources — to several of its waiver programs, including Elderly and Disabled, Independent Living, Intellectual Disabilities, and Technology Assisted.

'Resources' means something broader than a paycheck. The Agency's examples include cash, checking and savings accounts, loans, promissory notes, stocks, bonds, CDs, annuities, mutual funds, mineral and timber rights, and real estate. Whether a specific item actually counts toward the limit or gets excluded depends on the applicable program rule and the facts of ownership — an informal list a family draws up at the kitchen table isn't a substitute for that legal determination.
